Eyewitnesses reported that lifeguards once again cautioned the group to exit the water shortly after they entered because of worsening sea conditions. Two members of the party remained in the water but were separated by the strong current. One individual was able to return to shore after being carried east to calmer waters, but AAO was swept farther out to sea. Attempts at rescue by the friend were thwarted by the intensity of the current.
A coordinated search and recovery operation ensued, involving Nusa Penida Police, Search and Rescue teams, Army officers, and lifeguards. The victim’s body was recovered from the waters and brought to the clifftop of Kelingking Beach at approximately 11:50 AM on Wednesday.
