Five Chinese Tourists Killed in Bali Minibus Crash
Tragedy struck on Friday on the popular Indonesian holiday island of Bali, where a rental minibus carrying Chinese tourists plunged into a ravine, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuries to eight others. The group of 13 Chinese nationals had been traveling from Denpasar, the capital city of Bali, to the Buleleng region in the island’s northern area when the accident occurred.
According to Widwan Sutadi, head of local police, the crash happened as the minibus driver lost control of the vehicle. Attempting to avoid a collision with another car, the driver swerved sharply to the left. Unfortunately, this maneuver caused the minibus to veer off the asphalt road, crash through a community garden, and ultimately descend into a shallow ravine.
“The driver was unable to control the vehicle and tried to avoid hitting another car by steering into a tree,” Sutadi explained. “However, the vehicle was thrown off the road and plunged into the ravine.” He added that the crash was primarily due to the driver’s lack of caution while making the turn and driving downhill.
Emergency responders quickly transported the victims to the nearest hospital. Despite medical efforts, five of the tourists succumbed to their injuries. The driver sustained injuries but survived the incident.
This devastating accident has highlighted ongoing concerns about road safety on Bali’s often narrow and winding roads, especially for tourists unfamiliar with local driving conditions. Authorities are investigating the incident further to determine if any additional factors contributed to the crash.
Bali remains a favored destination for international travelers, including many from China, but this recent tragedy underscores the risks associated with road travel in the region. Officials have urged all visitors and drivers to exercise heightened caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
