After Indonesia’s new national police chief was freshly sworn in Wednesday, Bali’s governor is expressing high hopes for the improvement of police performance.
President Joko Widodo selected new Kapolri Tito Karnavian to lead the country in fighting crime, terrorism, and corruption.
“I know Gen. Tito well. He has already been around long and indeed we have hoped for improvement in police performance. He is a new hope for us, especially for reforms in internal circles,” Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika said in Denpasar on Thursday, as quoted by Antara Bali.
The governor added that as such an international area, Bali will certainly need attention from the national police force.
“Bali is an international area so there are overarching issues of crime likely to occur in Bali. Especially things like terrorism, narcotics, and human trafficking,” Pastika said.
Karnavian was sworn in during a ceremony yesterday and replaces General Badrodin Haiti, who is retiring next month after serving as Kapolri since April last year.
