Increased Security Patrols Launched to Protect Bali Tourists from Opportunistic Crime
Bali, Indonesia — As Bali enters the busy festive season, authorities in the popular tourist district of Kuta have announced increased security patrols aimed at safeguarding visitors from opportunistic crime. The initiative, led by Bali Police and local community partners, focuses on strengthening public safety to ensure tourists can enjoy a relaxed and secure holiday environment.
Kuta: A Vibrant Tourist Hub with Safety Challenges
Kuta remains one of Bali’s most renowned resort areas, drawing hundreds of thousands of domestic and international travelers annually. Its lively nightlife, wide appeal to families, solo travelers, and friends, and bustling streets have long made it a hotspot for tourism. However, this popularity also leads to occasional spikes in opportunistic crimes and alcohol-fueled incidents, particularly during nighttime hours.
Recognizing these challenges, Kuta Police Chief Commissioner Agus Riwayanto Diputra has called for a united community effort combining law enforcement, traditional village authorities, local civil police (Satpol PP), Pecalang teams, tourism businesses, and residents to enhance security vigilance throughout Kuta.
Collaboration at the Heart of Crime Prevention Efforts
Commissioner Diputra recently convened representatives from various stakeholder groups to improve supervision of potential security vulnerabilities in the area. In a formal circular letter, he emphasized that collaboration is essential to maintain order and prevent disturbances during the holiday season, especially around nightlife activities.
“We are open to coordinating with the local government on additional restrictive measures if necessary,” Commissioner Diputra stated. “Our commitment is to maintain a safe, orderly, and conducive tourism environment through preventative, human, and collaborative approaches. We encourage everyone—community members, businesses, and other stakeholders—to support our efforts for the well-being of all.”
Increased Police and Pecalang Presence
For tourists visiting Kuta over the coming weeks, particularly during Christmas and New Year celebrations, the presence of security officers will be noticeably higher. Tourists are encouraged to promptly report any suspicious behavior or criminal activity directly to Kuta Police. Additionally, local Pecalang officers—traditional village security personnel deployed around the clock in all villages—are available to assist visitors and coordinate with police for rapid response.
Strengthening Public Safety through Training and Technology
Further demonstrating the comprehensive approach to safety, the Bali Regional Police have partnered with GoJek, a leading online taxi service provider, to deliver training programs to drivers. These sessions reinforce knowledge of Indonesian traffic laws, the importance of tourism, and commitment to high-quality, safe passenger service.
Gde Armyn Gita, Head of Corporate Affairs for Gojek Bali and Nusa Tenggara, highlighted, “Driver-partners are the first people tourists interact with. Understanding the law and maintaining order are key to preserving Bali’s reputation as a safe, world-class destination. Gojek remains committed to ongoing collaboration with police and stakeholders to ensure public safety and comfortable mobility.”
Senior Commissioner of Police Dr. I Gede Adhi Mulyawarman praised the initiative, stating, “This legal education activity strengthens community awareness, especially among online transportation drivers who play a vital role in tourism mobility. We hope such collaborations continue to uphold security, order, and safety for everyone.”
Tourists are also advised to utilize safety features available in ride-hailing apps, such as Location Sharing and Emergency Buttons, to enhance real-time protection during trips.
A Commitment to a Safe and Welcoming Bali
The combined efforts of police authorities, traditional security teams, transportation providers, businesses, and local communities demonstrate Bali’s proactive commitment to tourism safety. As the island welcomes visitors for the festive period, these heightened security measures aim to enable all travelers to experience Bali’s natural beauty and vibrant culture in a secure and comfortable setting.
