Kintamani Introduces Digital Ticketing to Enhance Transparency and Visitor Experience in Bali

This initiative, launched by the Bangli Regency Tourism and Culture Office, aims to address longstanding concerns about opaque entry fee collections and improve the overall experience for travelers visiting this renowned highland destination.
Addressing Transparency Concerns
Kintamani has long been celebrated for its stunning panoramas of Mount Batur and Lake Batur, alongside Bali’s famous coffee roasteries, attracting both domestic and international tourists. Despite its popularity, the entry fee system had drawn criticism for its lack of transparency. Visitors previously paid standard fees—IDR 50,000 for international tourists and IDR 30,000 for children—at various posts around the district. However, unofficial receipts without recognizable government or tourism office logos created suspicion and raised concerns about potential scams, especially when alternative or less crowded access points were used.
To dispel these doubts, the Bangli Regency Tourism and Culture Office has introduced an official e-ticketing system. These digital tickets carry distinct branding, including the tagline “The Original of Bali” and a destination link, serving as clear and verifiable proof of payment. Wayan Dirgayusa, head of the tourism office, remarked that the new system was developed to align with tourists’ expectations for clarity and assurance during their visit while also promotionalizing the region.
Expanding Tourism Infrastructure
Kintamani’s tourism has evolved considerably over recent years. Once merely a stopover before ascending Mount Batur, the area has matured into a sought-after destination on its own. Notable investments have brought diverse accommodation choices, including luxurious glamping facilities featuring safari tents, bubble cabins, eco-friendly tiny homes, and cozy chalets. Many lodging options offer breathtaking sunrise views over Mount Batur.
With lodging prices starting at approximately USD 20 per night, Kintamani has become an attractive location for tourists to spend multiple nights, enabling immersive experiences in this scenic locale. The combination of natural beauty and enhanced facilities has helped fuel the district’s rising popularity.
Improving Accessibility and Inclusivity
Beyond digitizing ticketing, local authorities are also focusing on accessibility improvements. Collaborations with community organizations seek to make Kintamani’s attractions more welcoming to all visitors, including those with disabilities. Efforts include installing new ramps and accessible pathways at key entry points, ensuring that a broader spectrum of travelers can enjoy the region’s landscapes and cultural offerings.
Additional Attractions and Future Plans
It is important for visitors to note that payment of the entry fee grants access to the Kintamani region in general but does not cover entrance to specific sites such as the Geopark Museum or hiking trails on Mount Batur. Additional charges apply for access to these attractions, including fees for guides needed during hikes.
As visitor numbers grow, the Bangli Regency Tourism and Culture Office plans to enhance access control mechanisms for more attractions. This approach will allow better regulation of tourist flow, support sustainable tourism, and maintain the area’s natural and cultural integrity.
