Indonesia Promotes Culture, Tourism in Azerbaijan

The Indonesian Cultural Festival (ICF) 2018 held by the Indonesian Embassy in Azerbaijan at ICF Expo, Founten Square, Baku, on Sept. 13 to 15 sought to not only strengthen cooperation between the two countries in culture but also other sectors.

“Other than culture, hopefully, Indonesia and Azerbaijan can also collaborate in education, economy and Indonesian language development in Azerbaijan universities,” said Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy in a statement on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Husnan Bey Fananie said the event marked Indonesia’s presence in the country.

“Through the ICF, we aim to boost Indonesia’s cultural sector, as well as economic and diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan. We could see that many of the locals were highly enthusiastic about the event,” he said.

Among the archipelago’s traditional culture introduced at the event were the ondel-ondel dance, prampak gendang dance, enggang dance, mambri dance, dances from Lampung’s West Tulang Bawang regency, Jajar Gandrung and Reog Ponorogo.

Several Indonesian ministries reportedly participated in the event, including the Foreign Ministry, Education and Culture Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Youth and Sports Ministry and Religious Affairs Ministry. West Tulang Bawang regency and Jakarta provincial administrations also joined the festivity.

Indonesia’s booth at the ICF featured Batik Betawi Gobang; Delima Candi Amazing; PT PASI; Batik Coretta Indonesia; Kayu Larasindo Furniture Handicraft from Klaten, Central Java; PT Langlang Buwana; KK Shop (Batik Cake) and Altra Tour and Travel. It also presented SanCraft, pencak silat athletes from Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate (PSHT),  calligraphers sent by the Religious Affairs Ministry, Reog Ponorogo from Sabuk Janur studio from East Java’s Ponorogo and guest stars Dwiki Darmawan, Ita Purnama Sari and Amelia Ong.
