Government to Build Sanur and Nusa Penida Piers

Share This Post:

The central government will soon build three docks simultaneously in the Bali region. This is to improve inter-island transportation services in Bali in support of connectivity and tourism.

The Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi said the three piers will be part of Sanur Port, Nusa Penida Port, and a new port at Nusa Lembongan.

“Colleagues from the Directorate General of Land Transportation have surveyed the area and situation and the dock is indeed needed. We are talking about Sanur-Nusa Penida-Nusa Lembongan at the same time. We will provide the state budget for basic infrastructure, but we will do part of the infrastructure with the private sector so that it can be managed more professionally,” the Minister said in a statement on the official website of the Ministry of Transportation.

The government predicts the investment value for the Sanur Port Pier alone will be in the region of Rp500 billion. The Minister stated he hoped that the development will attract more tourists to the area and even increase their visiting time in Bali.

“We see potential here, but it hasn’t been well accommodated. Through the construction of this pier, it is expected that ship transport services in Sanur will improve, attracting more tourists and add to their visiting time in Bali,” enthused the Minister of Transportation.

According to Okezone.com, the Minister said the docks are planned to be built in 2020. He added, besides the three new piers, there is also a development project at Tanah Ampo Pier, Karangasem and also the cruise port in Benoa was also being developed.

The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster also stated that there were three targets to be reached with the infrastructural developments connected with the Sanur Port.

The first target was the transportation needs of the local community, who are going back and forth from Nusa Penida to Denpasar. Second, the importance of transportation services when there were large traditional ceremonies at Ratu Gede Slimped Temple. And the third, of course, is the tourism sector, where Nusa Penida has developed into a tourist destination that is increasingly in demand.

“Many tourists are now interested in going to Nusa Penida and we must provide proper and adequate dock services with international standards so that more tourists will make the crossing,” said Koster.
