THE family of an Australian man who died after falling through a glass panel in a Bali hotel room have declined to authorise an autopsy, say police.
Daniel Evans, 24, of Perth, died from blood loss after suffering severe cuts to his chest and arm in the accident about 7pm on Wednesday.
Mr Evans’ girlfriend, Chelsey Renae Branson, says she and her mother assisted Mr Evans into the hotel and heard glass break while she was putting the couple’s child to bed in another room.
“The family came here to see the body of Daniel and they conveyed their rejection for autopsy,” the head of Sanglah Hospital’s forensic installation, Ida Bagus Putu Alit, said on Saturday.
“We deliver this autopsy rejection to the police. After the autopsy rejection, usually the police then will hand over the body to the family.”
Kuta Police Station chief detective Slamet said once notification of the decision has been received, Mr Evans’ body will be released to be sent home.
“It’s not a problem if the family rejected the autopsy, especially when the investigation so far yielding that it’s purely accident and there’s no indication of crime at all,” Mr Slamet said.
It is understood the body will be flown to Perth on Monday or Tuesday.
Mr Evans was initially rushed to Siloam Hospital with a possible “slashed artery” before being referred to Sanglah Hospital in Kuta because of the extent of his injuries.
It is thought he died on the way to Sanglah Hospital.
Mr Ida said at the time Mr Evans had returned to the hotel under the influence of alcohol after getting a tattoo with two friends that afternoon.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to Mr Evans’ family.
