Bali Celebrates Local Language with Month of Balinese Language Activities

On Friday, February 28, 2025, the community of Desa Adat Ipah warmly welcomed the Month of Balinese Language with a morning event held at Wantilan Pura Puseh. The gathering commenced at 8:30 AM WITA and was attended by a variety of local dignitaries, including Aiptu I Nyoman Darma, Bhabinkamtibmas from Desa Sangkan Gunung, and Sertu I Nengah Sukarta, Babinsa.
This year’s celebration is centered around the theme “JAGAT KERTHI JAGRA HITA SAMASTA,” which emphasizes the importance of preserving the Balinese language. The village of Ipah organized this month-long event to promote linguistic heritage and foster a love for the Balinese tongue among younger generations.

Activities and Competitions
The ceremony began with the singing of "Indonesia Raya," followed by prayers. Jro Bendesa I Nengah Ludri extended his gratitude to all attendees during his opening remarks, underscoring the importance of nurturing the younger generation’s proficiency in the Balinese language, particularly in writing and reading Balinese script.
The village chief (Prebekel) also expressed thanks to the participants and wished for a smooth and successful event. He encouraged the competitors to perform their best while acknowledging that there would be winners and those who may not win.
Following the opening remarks, the Balinese Language Month was officially declared open by the Prebekel. The celebrations included two main competitions:
- Lomba Mesatua for the young participants.
- Lomba Nyurat Aksara Bali aimed at elementary school children, focusing on the writing of Balinese script.
The event proceeded in a peaceful and orderly manner, concluding at 10:30 AM WITA. The Month of Balinese Language serves not only as a celebration of local culture but also as a vital initiative to ensure the continuity and vitality of the Balinese language for future generations.
As Bali continues to embrace and promote its rich cultural heritage, events like this highlight the ongoing commitment of local communities to preserve their unique identity and traditions.
