UID Campus in Bali SEZ Represents Significant Advancement in Sustainable Development and Tourism
Jakarta, October 2, 2025 — The establishment of the United in Diversity (UID) Bali Campus within the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone (SEZ) marks a pivotal achievement in Indonesia’s commitment to sustainable development and tourism growth. Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana highlighted the campus as a concrete example of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) being actively implemented in the region.
A Synergy of Education, Innovation, and Tourism
The UID Bali Campus serves as a capacity-building center accessible to the public, designed to enhance understanding of the SDGs. It aims to foster synergy between education, innovation, and tourism development while placing a strong emphasis on environmental conservation and the empowerment of local communities. The campus symbolizes Bali’s evolving tourism sector, steering toward more sustainable practices.
Developments at Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone
Alongside the campus’s establishment, the Kura Kura Bali SEZ is progressing on an international marina project designed to accommodate 145 yachts. This marina will be seamlessly integrated with tourism, trade, and maritime service facilities, aligning with the Ministry of Tourism’s flagship “Upgrading Tourism” initiative that prioritizes marine-based tourism development.
Tantowi Yahya, President Commissioner of PT Bali Turtle Island Development, expressed confidence that the marina would become one of the world’s most beautiful due to its strategic location within a protected bay that safeguards vessels from strong waves, ensuring the safety of large yachts.
Investment Growth Reflects Positive Outlook
Investment figures reflect promising progress within Bali’s tourism sector and the Kura Kura Bali SEZ. In the first half of 2025, tourism investments in Bali reached Rp7.10 trillion, constituting 20.8 percent of Indonesia’s total national tourism investment. Meanwhile, the Kura Kura Bali SEZ recorded investments of Rp260.96 billion, equivalent to 14.53 percent of its annual target.
The developments at the UID Bali Campus and the Kura Kura Bali SEZ are considered to not only advance the local economy but to also embody Indonesia’s broader commitment to sustainable and inclusive tourism growth under the framework of the SDGs.
These initiatives showcase Bali’s transformation into a model for sustainable tourism, highlighting Indonesia’s dedication to environmental stewardship, community involvement, and international cooperation in the tourism sector.
