Foreign Tourists in Bali Urged to Carry Passports Amid Intensified Visa Crackdown
Bali, Indonesia – Foreign visitors to the Indonesian resort island of Bali are being strongly advised to carry their passports at all times following a recent surge in immigration enforcement activities. Local immigration authorities have posted videos showing officers conducting spot checks in popular tourist areas, asking travelers to present their travel documents as part of an island-wide effort to curb visa violations.
Increased Enforcement Amid Rising Violations
The renewed focus on immigration compliance comes after authorities reported a notable rise in visa infractions earlier this year. In response, the Indonesian government has implemented new measures to monitor foreign nationals more rigorously to ensure adherence to visa and immigration regulations.
A key development in this enforcement push is the formation of an Immigration Patrol Task Force, which was deployed earlier this month with a clear mandate to “suppress illegal acts” and address visa and immigration violations among foreigners residing in or visiting Bali.
Official Statements and Operational Details
Agus Andrianto, Indonesia’s Minister of Immigration and Correction, stated that the task force’s creation aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability and security in Bali. The island’s reputation as one of Indonesia’s premier tourist destinations underscores the significance of this effort.
Approximately 100 uniformed officers equipped with body cameras and safety vests are actively patrolling ten key tourist hotspots around the island. These include internationally renowned locations such as the surfing hubs of Canggu and Seminyak, the cultural and spiritual center of Ubud, and the seafood-focused town of Jimbaran.

Highlighting the ongoing operations, Bali’s Ngurah Rai immigration office shared footage on social media of officers conducting spot checks on foreigners at Nusa Dua Beach. These patrols aim to remind all foreign visitors to carry proper identification and ensure their legal status while enjoying the island.
The immigration authorities have emphasized that the measures are not only about enforcement but also about safeguarding Bali’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for travelers worldwide.
