Recent travel data from Agoda, a leading online travel booking platform, reveals that Bali holds the fourth spot in the global Return Visitor Ranking for the first half of 2025. Only Bangkok, Japan, and Seoul rank higher, underscoring Bali’s allure as a destination that entices tourists to come back repeatedly for unforgettable experiences.
A Magnet for First-Time Visitors and Repeat Tourists Alike
According to Agoda’s Senior Country Director for Indonesia, Gede Gunawan, Bali’s enduring appeal lies in its unique blend of natural beauty, rich culture, tropical climate, and a constant stream of new attractions. “Often, one trip is not enough, especially to an attractive destination like Bali,” Gunawan stated. His comments highlight why both newcomers and seasoned travelers keep returning to the island year after year.
Bali is not the only Indonesian destination garnering attention. Jakarta, Batam, Lombok, and Bandung also feature prominently on Agoda’s list of top revisit destinations. Each offers distinct experiences—from Jakarta’s metropolitan vibrancy and Batam’s tax-free shopping to Lombok’s pristine nature and surf spots, and Bandung’s culinary delights and scenic landscapes.
Australians and Europeans: The Biggest Fans of Bali
The longstanding connection between Bali and Australia continues to thrive, with Australians making up the largest share of international arrivals. Many Australian tourists consider Bali a second home, frequently returning throughout the year. Hotel data from Sanur, one of Bali’s oldest and most beloved resort areas, reveals that about 60% of guests are repeat visitors. These travelers often stay longer, with average visits spanning from four nights to as long as two weeks.
Ida Bagus Gede Agung Sidharta Putra, Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) for Denpasar City and owner of Griya Santrian Sanur Hotel, shared further insights. “Some of our guests have come five, thirty, or even eighty-four times,” he said, emphasizing the loyalty of return visitors. European tourists, facing longer-haul flights, tend to book extended stays of around two weeks. Meanwhile, Australians usually opt for week-long visits, benefiting from shorter travel times and competitive travel deals.
A Promising Outlook for Bali’s Tourism
With Bali projected to welcome over 6.5 million international tourists by the end of 2025, the island’s tourism sector is poised for continued growth.
