Bali to Launch Digital Payment System to Enhance Cashless Vacation Experience for Tourists
In a significant move toward modernizing tourism services, Bali is set to introduce an innovative digital payment system designed to provide visitors with a seamless, cashless holiday experience. The initiative, spearheaded by Bank Indonesia, aims to simplify financial transactions for tourists and further position Bali as a world-class, tourist-friendly destination.
Introducing the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack
At the heart of this new development is the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack, a comprehensive digital solution being rolled out from Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. This package enables tourists to easily set up Indonesian SIM cards that include mobile data and phone numbers, alongside chip-based electronic money accessible through an integrated e-wallet.
This integrated service supports the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS), an increasingly widespread system across the country. QRIS facilitates cashless payments by allowing users to scan QR codes for purchases or use prepaid e-wallets, thereby streamlining transactions without the need for cash.
Enhancing Tourist Convenience and Economic Inclusivity
Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Fillianingsh Hendarta, emphasized the importance of transaction ease in enhancing the overall tourist experience in Bali. He explained that the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack comprises three key components designed to boost the efficiency and convenience of both payments and communications for visitors.
“These initiatives not only improve the ease and speed of transactions but also strengthen Indonesia’s reputation as a digital-savvy and welcoming tourism destination,” Hendarta remarked during the package’s launch.
Bank Indonesia outlined that, alongside offering the travel pack, a Tourism Information Center has been established at Ngurah Rai International Airport. This center serves as a resource hub for newly arrived tourists, providing them with the digital travel pack and a QRIS Nusantara Tourism Guidebook. The guidebook contains valuable information on local destinations and instructions on utilizing the QRIS payment system at various tourist attractions.
By facilitating effortless digital payments—from hotel stays and shopping to dining and entrance fees—the initiative is anticipated to promote smoother transactions and foster sustainable economic growth within Bali’s local communities.

In parallel, Indonesia is currently working on redenominating its currency, the rupiah, to simplify financial calculations by removing three zeros from the currency’s face value.
