New Air Route Connects Bali to East Java, Boosting Tourism and Regional Connectivity
In a significant development for Indonesian tourism, a new direct flight has been launched linking Bali with East Java, enhancing travel options and promoting economic growth between the two regions. The service, operated by Wings Air—a subsidiary of Lion Air—connects Denpasar International Airport in Bali with Jember Airport in East Java, providing convenient access to some of East Java’s most sought-after destinations.
Flight Details and Schedule
The new route operates three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Flights depart Denpasar at 11:40 a.m., arriving in Jember at noon. The return flights leave Jember at 1:00 p.m., landing in Denpasar at 3:20 p.m. This initial schedule aims to meet current market demand, with the potential for increased frequency as the route develops.
Expanding Travel Horizons
This air connection drastically reduces travel time between Bali and East Java, allowing tourists to reach destinations like the stunning Mount Ijen—just 100 kilometers from Jember—with ease. Previously, travelers had to rely on less direct routes such as ferry crossings from Gilimanuk to Banyuwangi or longer overland journeys.
According to Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, this route “opens new access for public mobility and supports economic growth between the regions.” He emphasized that it strengthens Bali’s position as Indonesia’s flagship tourism hub, as the airport now offers direct flights to 59 destinations through 51 airlines.
Tourism and Economic Benefits
Danang Mandala Prihantoro, Corporate Communications Strategist for Wings Air, highlighted that the new service enhances accessibility to Jember and nearby areas such as Lumajang, Bondowoso, Probolinggo, and Situbondo. This provides both domestic and international travelers with new opportunities to explore East Java’s rich cultural and natural attractions.
The route also benefits East Java residents, offering easier travel options for those visiting Bali and onward destinations like Lombok and Labuan Bajo. By facilitating multi-stop trips across Indonesia’s diverse islands, this connection supports the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism’s broader goal of promoting inter-island travel.
