Bali Tourism Office Urges Increased Caution at Key Attractions Amid Ongoing Bad Weather
July 10, 2025 — As Bali experiences unseasonal and challenging weather conditions, the Bali Provincial Government has issued an urgent call for heightened vigilance among tourists and tourism operators alike. The Bali Tourism Office is emphasizing the importance of safety precautions at major tourist attractions due to persistently adverse weather, hazardous sea conditions, and increased seismic activity affecting the region.
Safety Measures and Risk Mitigation
I Wayan Sumarajaya, Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, spoke to the media about the need for tourism businesses and attraction managers to take proactive steps in mitigating risks. “We are engaged in cultural tourism and also rely on natural beauty; naturally, we cannot avoid the current natural conditions,” Sumarajaya stated, highlighting the delicate balance between maintaining tourism activities and ensuring visitor safety.
Authorities have called for reinforced security measures, including deploying more supervising personnel and installing clear prohibition signage in areas deemed vulnerable to natural hazards. While beaches and Bali’s mountainous and volcanic areas remain the primary focus of these safety efforts, the inquiry into the safety of access roads and other tourist infrastructure continues, underlining that safety must be a comprehensive priority across all environments frequented by visitors.
Warnings for Trekking Enthusiasts
The Bali Tourism Office has issued special advisories aimed at hikers planning to explore the island’s iconic peaks, particularly Mount Batur and Mount Agung. Both locations, popular with tourists for their scenic views and cultural significance, pose serious physical challenges and can become perilous during bad weather.
Sumarajaya advised trekkers to always be accompanied by licensed local guides and emphasized the need for proper preparation. “For the time being, weather conditions on Mount Batur have been reasonable, and it remains popular. However, visitors should not hike alone and must ensure they are physically fit before attempting the ascent. If you are not healthy, you should not go up,” he cautioned.
Sea Safety and Ongoing Search Efforts
In parallel with land-based advisories, officials have urged visitors to closely monitor weather and wave forecasts before visiting the island’s beaches, which can fluctuate rapidly between calm and dangerous conditions. The Bali Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency regularly updates these forecasts through its official Instagram channel.
Tragically, an incident earlier this week underscores the urgent need for caution: a 29-year-old Saudi Arabian tourist was reported missing after being swept out to sea while swimming at Batu Belig Beach. Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, augmented by local volunteers and traditional village leaders who are conducting customary religious ceremonies, have been actively searching the area from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday but have yet to locate the missing woman.
Nyoman Sidakarya, Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, provided an update, stating that search efforts have covered extensive areas along the coastline but have so far been unsuccessful. The operation remains ongoing, with safety authorities encouraging all beachgoers to heed warnings and exercise caution.
Calls for Tourist Vigilance
Echoing the sentiments of the Bali Tourism Office, Bali Senator Agung Bagus Tri Candra Arka highlighted the critical role of weather information dissemination in protecting visitors. “Providing weather information to tourists is important to ensure their safety when visiting tourist destinations and to prevent any untoward incidents,” he said.
Visitors to Bali are strongly advised to check up-to-date weather and sea condition reports regularly, adhere to signage and guidance issued by authorities, and prioritize their well-being during their stay, especially amid the current unpredictable climate and natural risk dynamics.
Visitors and tourism operators are reminded that safety remains the top priority as Bali navigates through this period of inclement weather. Staying informed and cautious helps ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy the island’s distinctive natural and cultural attractions safely.
