Bali Police Confirm U.S. Tourist Tested Positive for Drugs Following Clinic Rampage
Incident Overview
Bali Police have confirmed that a U.S. tourist, identified as MCM, tested positive for drugs after causing a disturbance at the Nusa Medika Pratama Clinic in Badung on Saturday, April 12, 2025. The incident escalated when the tourist, reportedly under the influence, became violent and damaged clinic property, leading to his arrest.
Witnesses shared video footage of the outburst on social media, showing the tourist destroying facilities within the clinic. The incident garnered widespread attention online, prompting a swift response from local authorities.
Confirmation of Drug Use
According to AKP I Ketut Sukadi, the Denpasar Police Public Relations Officer, drug tests revealed that the tourist had consumed Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cocaine. While the specific quantities of drugs found at the tourist’s accommodation have not been disclosed, police are continuing their investigation into the case.
“We are still waiting for developments,” Sukadi stated regarding the ongoing inquiry.
The Sequence of Events
Police reported that the tourist arrived at the clinic unconscious, accompanied by a friend who summoned an online taxi for transportation. Upon regaining consciousness, the tourist reacted violently when his friend attempted to comfort him. The friend’s hug led to an unexpected, aggressive response from MCM, resulting in a physical altercation.
“When the perpetrator realized, his friend came over and hugged him. However, the perpetrator was shocked and immediately became angry and hit his friend,” explained AKP I Komang Agus Dharmayana, the Chief of South Kuta Police.
The situation escalated as the tourist began damaging clinic facilities, thereby jeopardizing the safety of other patients receiving care.
Response from Security and Police
As the disturbance unfolded, clinic security personnel attempted to intervene but were unable to subdue the enraged tourist. They ultimately contacted the local Community Protection (Linmas) unit, who then called the police for assistance.
“Because the perpetrator could not be stopped, the security finally contacted the village linmas and the police to immediately come to the location to help secure the perpetrator,” Agus stated.
Upon law enforcement’s arrival, the tourist was calmed down and admitted to his wrongdoing.
Resolution and Compensation
Following his acknowledgement of the incident, the U.S. tourist expressed his willingness to take responsibility for the damage incurred during the outburst. Both he and representatives from the clinic were escorted to the South Kuta Police Station for further questioning.
The estimated cost of the damage amounted to IDR 35 million (approximately $2,300), which the tourist paid promptly via bank transfer. The payment was documented with signed receipts from both himself and the clinic.
MCM was reportedly staying at a hotel in the Uluwatu area prior to the incident. With the matter resolved satisfactorily between the parties involved, local authorities are now focusing on the broader implications of the incident related to drug use among tourists in Bali.
