Bali Immigration Forms Special Task Force to Crack Down on Unruly Tourists
Denpasar, Bali – August 8, 2025 — In response to escalating concerns over immigration violations and disruptive behavior by some tourists, Bali’s Immigration and Correctional Services Ministry has established a dedicated task force aimed at monitoring and controlling unruly tourists across the island. This initiative comes amid rising reports of foreigners overstaying their visas and engaging in unauthorized business activities that have unsettled local communities.
The newly formed task force consists of 100 immigration officers who will carry out systematic and random patrols in key tourist hotspots on the island. Utilizing motorcycles and cars to enhance mobility, the patrol teams will focus particularly on areas known for frequent violations, including Canggu in North Kuta, Seminyak, Kerobokan, Matahari Terbit and Benoa Harbors, Pecatu, Mertasari Beach, Kuta, Gianyar, Nusa Dua, and Jimbaran.
To ensure officer safety and accountability, officials conducting the patrols will be outfitted with safety vests and body cameras. These measures are intended to facilitate transparent enforcement actions and deter potential offenders from violating immigration laws.
During the official inauguration ceremony held in Denpasar on Tuesday, Immigration Minister Agus Andrianto highlighted the task force’s mission, underscoring the importance of swift action to curb illegal activities and protect the island’s hospitality environment. “This initiative is a direct response to President Prabowo Subianto’s mandate to uphold stability and security in Bali, one of Indonesia’s foremost tourist destinations,” Minister Agus stated.
The task force’s formation addresses several pressing issues impacting Bali’s reputation and local welfare. Reports indicate a significant uptick in foreigners overstaying their permitted visa durations, coupled with complaints from local residents about unlicensed enterprises operated by tourists. These illicit activities range from unofficial villa and motorbike rentals to unauthorized tour guiding services—practices that not only break regulations but also threaten legitimate businesses and community safety.
Bali, known worldwide as a premier holiday destination, has experienced a surge in visitor numbers in recent years, leading to overtourism challenges. This influx has intensified efforts by authorities to maintain order and safeguard both tourists and residents alike.
The new task force’s operations will serve as a critical component of Bali’s broader strategy to enforce immigration laws more rigorously, deter criminal conduct, and maintain a secure and welcoming environment for all visitors and locals.
