Bali Launches New Digital Payment System to Enhance Tourist Experience

Bali, Indonesia – In a move to streamline transactions and boost its appeal as a tourist-friendly destination, Bali has introduced a comprehensive digital payments system for international visitors. This initiative, spearheaded by Bank Indonesia, aims to create a cashless tourism ecosystem that promises quicker, smoother, and more seamless payment experiences across the island.

Introducing the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack (ITTP)

At the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Bank Indonesia officially launched the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack (ITTP), a digital payment solution tailored specifically for tourists. The ITTP combines an Indonesian SIM card equipped with internet access and a chip-based electronic money card linked to an e-wallet. This package enables tourists to make QR-code-based payments effortlessly at various points including tourist attractions, retail shops, hotels, and restaurants.

The system integrates with the country’s Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS), a nationwide standard for cashless payments. While cash remains widely accepted, the convenience of using one’s smartphone to complete transactions is an increasingly attractive option for travelers.

Support Services and Tourist Information Center

To facilitate a smooth transition for tourists, a dedicated Tourism Information Center has been established at the airport. Here, visitors can obtain the ITTP and a QRIS Nusantara Tourism Guidebook. This guidebook serves as an essential resource listing popular sites, cafes, markets, and businesses across Bali that accept QRIS payments, ensuring tourists have easy access to cashless payment options throughout their stay.

Enhancing Bali’s Standing as a Global Destination

Bali is renowned worldwide for its breathtaking beaches, cultural landmarks, and vibrant natural landscapes such as the Uluwatu Temple, Ubud Monkey Forest, Tanah Lot Temple, Mount Batur, and the Tegalalang Rice Terrace. The introduction of digital payments not only elevates the convenience for tourists but also aligns with Indonesia’s broader goals to modernize payment methods and elevate the travel experience on the island.

Bank Indonesia’s move also aligns with plans to simplify the national currency’s denomination, which is expected to take place gradually over time, further easing financial transactions for both residents and travelers.
