International Tourists in Bali Can Now Pay Everywhere with a Single Digital Wallet
Bali, Indonesia — In a significant move toward digitizing its tourism infrastructure, Bali has introduced the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack (ITTP), a comprehensive digital payment solution designed to simplify transactions for the millions of international visitors arriving on the island each year. Launched by Bank Indonesia, the ITTP enables tourists to make payments seamlessly across Bali using a single digital wallet linked to QR codes accepted at restaurants, shops, hotels, and tourist attractions.
Simplifying Payments for Tourists
The new ITTP package is an all-in-one travel companion for tourists, combining a chip-based digital wallet compatible with the Indonesian Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment system along with a SIM card preloaded with mobile data and a local Indonesian phone number. This integration allows travelers to easily pay by scanning QR codes without the hassle of currency exchange or managing multiple payment apps.
Fillianingsih Hendarta, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, emphasized the initiative’s goal to enhance Bali’s reputation as a visitor-friendly destination. “Ease of transactions is an important part of the tourism experience in Bali,” she said at the launch event, highlighting the focus on modernizing and streamlining travel payments.
Tourism Information Centre Supports Travelers
To facilitate smooth adoption of the ITTP, Bank Indonesia has established a Tourism Information Centre at Bali’s primary gateway, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Here, arriving tourists receive assistance setting up their digital wallets and can access the QRIS Nusantara Tourism Guidebook. This guidebook highlights a wide range of local businesses, including cafes, markets, and attractions that accept QRIS payments, helping travelers navigate the island’s digital economy with ease.
Growing Digital Payment Adoption Across Bali
The introduction of the ITTP coincides with a dramatic increase in QRIS payment acceptance across Bali in 2025. Nearly one million merchants now support QR code payments, reflecting a surge in digital transaction volumes linked to international tourists from countries such as China, Japan, and Singapore. Furthermore, the cross-border QRIS feature allows visitors to link their home country’s digital wallets for hassle-free payments during their stay.
This digital payment revolution is not limited to Bali’s tourist hotspots. Even small rural businesses, temples, and traditional market vendors in cultural centers like Ubud and Penglipuran have embraced QR code payments. The wider use of cashless methods throughout Bali’s communities provides tourists with consistent payment options and empowers local entrepreneurs to participate more confidently in the thriving tourism economy.
