Bali Promotes Sports Tourism Through Southeast Asia Sports Medicine Scientific Meeting
Denpasar, November 3, 2025 – Bali is strengthening its position as a hub for sports tourism by hosting a prestigious scientific meeting for sports medicine doctors across Southeast Asia. The event, which combines the 10th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Indonesian Sports Medicine Association (PDSKO) 2025 and the 2nd Malaysian-Indonesia Sports Symposium 2025, took place on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Hotel Plaza Sanur, Denpasar.
Around 200 participants attended the meeting, which featured international speakers from Italy, the Netherlands, and Malaysia. The event provided a valuable platform for cross-professional collaboration to discuss advances in sports medicine within Southeast Asia and to strengthen academic networks among countries in the region.
During his address, Bali’s Deputy Governor I Nyoman Giri Prasta emphasized the provincial government’s prioritization of health sectors at both national and regional levels. He highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare services by ensuring the equitable distribution of specialist doctors, developing healthcare facilities, and implementing programs grounded in local wisdom.
"Bali is transforming beyond conventional tourism into a Central Wellness Tourism destination that integrates tourism with health and fitness," Deputy Governor Giri Prasta explained. He also outlined several initiatives undertaken by the provincial government, including strengthening traditional health services, establishing village clinics, launching the ‘Healthy and Happy Life Assistance’ program, and providing incentives to community health workers. These efforts underscore the government’s commitment to cultivating a healthy, happy, and prosperous community both physically and spiritually.
The Deputy Governor stressed the critical importance of synergy between academics and healthcare professionals in developing and executing strategic regional programs. He noted, "The contributions of experts and academics are vital in accelerating improvements in public health. Health challenges have become global issues, and we must continually adapt to keep pace with global developments."
Dr. Rika Haryono, Chairperson of the Indonesian Sports Medicine Association, highlighted regenerative therapy as a promising breakthrough in sports medicine. This therapy accelerates tissue recovery and injury healing, especially beneficial for athletes and active individuals. Speaking about the meeting’s objectives, Dr. Haryono remarked, "Through this seminar and workshop, we aim to update knowledge, share clinical experiences, and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration. Bali was chosen as the venue because it symbolizes harmony between physical activity, health, and culture—a perfect representation of the spirit of sports tourism."
The Bali provincial government expressed full support and appreciation for the event, acknowledging its significant contribution to developing human resources in health and sports. The scientific meeting is seen as a decisive step toward affirming Bali’s role as a leading wellness tourism destination in Southeast Asia.
This event and ongoing initiatives reflect Bali’s dedication to leveraging sports and health sciences to promote sustainable tourism and community well-being in alignment with global health and tourism trends.
