Bali Appeals to Consulates to Enhance Tourist Conduct and Security on the Island
Denpasar, Bali – November 7, 2025 — In an ongoing effort to uphold safety and good order amidst rising tourist numbers, Bali Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya has once again reached out to consular representatives on the island, urging their cooperation in promoting responsible behavior among international visitors.
During a recent assembly convened in Denpasar, Chief Inspector General Adityajaya met with delegates from 24 consulates representing key countries with a significant presence in Bali’s tourism sector. Highlighting the pivotal role of security in maintaining Bali’s reputation as a premier travel destination, he stressed that ensuring a safe and comfortable environment is essential for both domestic and international tourists.
“Our island’s security is a shared responsibility. By working hand in hand with consulates, we aim to foster a safe tourism landscape that benefits everyone,” said Chief Inspector General Adityajaya during his opening remarks.
The call for enhanced collaboration comes amid a noticeable increase in violations involving foreign nationals over the past year. In particular, early 2025 saw a sharp escalation in immigration-related offenses, prompting the Indonesian Immigration Department to establish a specialized task force dedicated to monitoring and cracking down on these infractions. Regular spot checks now actively take place in high-traffic tourist hubs such as Canggu, Ubud, and Legian.
Beyond immigration concerns, the Bali Police Chief noted a troubling rise in various criminal activities linked to visitors, including narcotics offenses, fraud, illegal investment schemes, and cybercrime. Bali Regional Police have reaffirmed their commitment to rigorously enforce the law and deliver swift action regardless of an offender’s nationality or the severity of the crime.
Statistics reveal that as of late 2025, 236 foreign nationals have been deported due to violations. The majority hail from Russia, the United States, Australia, Ukraine, and India. While the authorities recognize the figure is higher than ideal, it nonetheless represents a very small fraction of the anticipated 6.5 million international arrivals projected for the year.
This latest initiative mirrors similar engagement efforts held earlier in the year, demonstrating Bali Police’s sustained focus on preserving the island’s welcoming atmosphere. Representatives from major diplomatic missions, including Australia, China, Japan, the USA, and Russia, participated, signaling broad-based support for maintaining Bali’s appeal.
To further assist tourists, officials continue to advocate that visitors familiarize themselves with Bali’s established guidelines and customs prior to arrival. This includes adhering to local laws and respecting cultural norms, ensuring mutual respect and preventing misunderstandings that can lead to enforcement actions.
Simultaneously, Bali is advancing its global partnerships, exemplified by Governor Wayan Koster’s recent discussions with Bulgarian officials. These conversations aim to expand cooperation on sustainable tourism, education, cultural exchanges, and economic development. Plans are underway for a sister city relationship between Denpasar and a Bulgarian municipality, with a delegation of Bulgarian mayors scheduled to visit Bali in December for exploratory talks.
Governor Koster expressed enthusiasm about the prospects, stating, “We are ready to open communication channels that bring tangible benefits in culture, education, and the creative economy.”
As Bali continues to welcome millions of visitors annually, authorities and consular partners are focused on balancing the island’s vibrant tourism sector with responsible visitor conduct. The collaborative approach underscores Bali’s commitment to safeguarding its unique heritage and ensuring an enjoyable, respectful experience for all.
Tourists planning to visit Bali are encouraged to review official travel advisories and behavioral guidelines to contribute to a positive and safe environment during their stay.
