Security Patrols Intensified at Bali Resorts to Combat Tourist-targeted Crimes

Bali, Indonesia — April 10, 2025 — In response to a rise in crimes targeting tourists, police officials in Bali have announced a significant increase in security patrols across popular tourist resorts, particularly in South Kuta. This proactive measure comes amid ongoing concerns regarding the safety of visitors to the island.

Increased Patrols Amid Rising Crime Reports

The South Kuta Police Chief, AKP I Komang Agus Dharmayana, confirmed that these enhanced security measures will persist even as the heightened security presence related to the recent Lebaran holidays has been scaled down. The decision follows a concerning trend of criminal activities reported over the last couple of months, prompting officials to act decisively to ensure the safety of both tourists and local residents.

“The patrols focus on preventing theft, burglary, motorcycle theft, and the illegal possession of weapons,” said Dharmayana, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a secure environment in high-traffic areas frequented by tourists.

A Focus on High-traffic Areas

Dharmayana highlighted that patrol teams will be actively monitoring parking lots for vehicles and will also cover residential areas and vital locations within tourist zones. “This routine activity is aimed at providing a sense of security to the community and tourists,” he added.

In an effort to foster positive relationships with local residents and tourists, patrolling officers have been instructed to adopt a “humanist approach.” This entails engaging in conversations with the public to enhance community relations and heighten awareness around safety measures.

Increasing Vigilance Among Tourists

Tourists visiting Bali, especially those in the bustling areas of South Kuta and surrounding regions, are being urged to remain vigilant about their personal belongings. Recent incidents have seen criminals specifically targeting tourists displaying high-value items such as gold jewelry and expensive electronics.

Last week, for instance, police reported the arrest of a 15-year-old from Karangasem Regency who was involved in a violent theft that targeted a family walking along Jalan Pudak Sari. The young suspect confessed to snatching a gold necklace from one of the victims and indicated that he intended to sell it to meet his daily needs.

Expanding Efforts to Gianyar Regency

The increase in security isn’t limited to South Kuta. Police in Gianyar Regency, home to popular tourist destinations like Ubud, are also ramping up their patrol efforts. Chief Commissioner I Nyoman Sukadana of the Gianyar Police stated that ongoing patrols are crucial to ensuring a peaceful and orderly environment for both residents and visitors.

Sukadana expressed a commitment to making the community feel safe and secure as they go about their daily activities, echoing the sentiment of public safety emphasized by his South Kuta counterpart.

Authorities are encouraging tourists to promptly report any suspicious or criminal activities. To alleviate concerns regarding potential language barriers, bilingual police personnel are available to assist non-Indonesian speakers.
