I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport Strengthens Ties with India by Welcoming IndiGo Airlines’ New Direct Flight from Mumbai

Mangupura, October 18, 2025 – I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali has officially welcomed the inaugural flight of IndiGo Airlines coming directly from Mumbai, India. This landmark event marks the establishment of a new direct air connection between Mumbai—one of India’s largest and most vibrant cities—and Bali, a renowned global tourist destination.

The launch flight operated by IndiGo Airlines using an Airbus A320 aircraft, flight number 6E 1607, touched down at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport at 4:00 PM Central Indonesia Time. On board were 173 passengers eager to experience the tropical allure of Bali. After a turnaround time, the flight was scheduled to return to Mumbai at 5:45 PM under flight number 6E 1608. This new Mumbai–Denpasar service will run daily, offering travelers greater convenience and connectivity.

Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, the General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, emphasized the significance of this new route. “The introduction of IndiGo’s direct flight from Mumbai represents a major step forward in enhancing the connectivity between Indonesia and India. We are delighted to welcome IndiGo Airlines to our airport, as this route expands our international network and bolsters both tourism and economic relations between our countries,” he said.

India is one of Bali’s most promising markets for international tourism. Data from 2025 shows a noteworthy upward trend in Indian visitors to Bali. Throughout the year, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport recorded arrivals of 438,646 Indian nationals, marking an 8 percent increase compared to the previous year, 2024. This makes India the third-largest source of international tourists visiting Bali.

The initiation of this direct Mumbai route is expected to further accelerate the growth of Indian tourists to Bali, reinforcing the island’s reputation as a premier travel destination for Indian travelers. The new flight adds to existing direct connections between Bali and Indian cities including New Delhi and Bengaluru. Currently, the airport’s Indian routes are served by two airlines: IndiGo and Air India.

Overall, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport now hosts 37 international routes spanning multiple countries alongside 21 domestic routes, bringing the total to 58 flight routes. “As we continue to expand our route network, we remain committed to delivering outstanding service to all airport users while supporting Bali’s tourism growth,” concluded Shahab.
