Bali Airport Celebrates School Holidays in Style for Tourists and Travelers
As Bali welcomes the high season, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is embracing the surge of holidaymakers with a vibrant and festive atmosphere. To mark the school holidays and the influx of tourists, the airport has launched a special ‘Summer Beach’ themed event, aiming to enhance the passenger experience and showcase the island’s welcoming spirit.
The event, which started on June 25 and runs through the end of the month, features an array of colorful and eye-catching summer-themed installations. Passengers passing through the airport are greeted by giant props such as a massive suitcase symbolizing travel, coconut trees, beach umbrellas, surfboards, and replicas of waves, all reflecting Bali’s tropical charm. Additionally, tourists can enjoy installations featuring popular Happiness Club characters like Fun Cican, Tahilalats, and Dudu, adding a playful touch to the airport environment.
These larger-than-life decorations have quickly become popular selfie spots for families and travelers eager to capture memorable moments before embarking on their adventures around Bali. The installations not only brighten the airport but also serve as a new landmark and highlight of the transit experience.
General Manager Ahmad Syaugi Shahab expressed the airport’s dedication to creating a safe, comfortable, and memorable journey for all visitors. Speaking to reporters, Shahab shared, “As a transit point for tourists spending their holidays in Bali, we also want to be a part of this special moment. One way we do this is by providing a travel experience that is not only safe and comfortable, but also memorable.”
Beyond entertainment, the event exemplifies the airport’s commitment to supporting the local community. The management collaborated with Balinese artisans and the island’s creative sectors to showcase products and art performances. This initiative promotes Bali’s rich cultural heritage while also contributing to its tourism and economic growth.
Current travel statistics reveal a healthy increase in passenger traffic for 2025. So far this year, Ngurah Rai International Airport has handled approximately 11.4 million passengers across both international and domestic flights. This marks a 1% growth compared to the same period in 2024, with 11,424,245 passenger movements and 68,891 aircraft takeoffs and landings reported in the first six months.
Among international travelers, Singapore stands out as the largest source market, with over 1.3 million passengers, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne. However, Australians remain the majority of international arrivals overall, closely followed by visitors from China and India. On the domestic front, the busiest routes include Jakarta, Surabaya, and Labuan Bajo.
To manage the growing traffic, the airport continues to optimize infrastructure and streamline passenger flows. Implementing Traffic Management measures further enhances operational efficiency, ensuring travelers experience smooth transit during this peak period.
With Bali’s high season expected to continue until the end of July and into August, the airport advises travelers to allow plenty of extra time when journeying to and from the airport. Although local authorities are working on long-term solutions to address congestion, some traffic delays on key routes remain inevitable during peak travel times.
