Bali Transportation Agency to Conduct Spot Checks on Tourist Taxis in Popular Areas

Tourists traveling to Bali, particularly Australians, have been advised to be aware of increased spot checks on tourist taxis and transport vehicles by the Bali Transportation Agency. The inspections are focused on the Badung Regency, which covers prominent tourist destinations such as Kuta, Seminyak, and Canggu.

The initiative, launched on July 29, aims to ensure the safety and compliance of tourist transportation services across the island. Early results from these inspections have shown approximately 20 violations, with drivers receiving tickets for non-compliance, according to reports from The Bali Sun.

Authorities have identified a concerning number of private vehicles operating without the proper tourist transportation licenses and permits, posing potential risks to visitors. The Head of the Road Transportation Division of the Bali Transportation Agency, Nyoman Sunarya, stressed that while unlawful tourist vehicles were still permitted to carry passengers during the spot checks, drivers were issued citations and warnings and instructed to promptly obtain the necessary permits.

“These spot checks will likely continue over the next month and are focused on ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of tourists,” Sunarya said. He added that the main area of focus remains Badung Regency, where the agency’s team will maintain regular supervision and guidance to taxi drivers and transport operators.

These transport safety measures come shortly after the Bali police conducted visits to taxi drivers in the South Kuta area, reinforcing the government’s commitment to enforcement.

Tourists should note that these actions are not expected to impact their use of legitimate taxi services. Instead, they serve as a method to improve regulatory compliance within Bali’s extensive tourist transport sector.

Travelers visiting Bali are encouraged to use officially licensed taxis and transportation options to ensure a safe and hassle-free experience while exploring the island’s renowned beaches, cultural sites, and vibrant nightlife.
