In an effort to better manage the bustling tourist hotspot of Kuta Beach, Bali’s local authorities have introduced a new system requiring all professional photographers and videographers operating in the area to be formally registered. This move aims to ensure safety, comfort, and order for both visitors and local communities at the renowned beach.

Overseen by the Badung Regency Government, which administers Kuta Beach as a major tourist attraction, the new regulations are enforced under the Kuta Traditional Village Regulation No. 003 of 2023. These rules establish clear protocols for photographers working within the public beach area, a popular location known worldwide for its consistent waves and vibrant surf culture.
Kuta Beach is not only a hub for surf schools and professional surfers who often engage photographers to capture the wave-riding action but is also a favored spot for tourists and locals to take iconic sunset photos. Arya Arimbawa, Manager of Kuta Beach, revealed that since the introduction of the registration system, only six out of ten initially registered photographers chose to remain compliant with the new protocols. This indicates varying levels of cooperation within the community.
