Indonesia AirAsia to Launch Direct Flights Between Darwin and Bali

Indonesia AirAsia is preparing to reinstate an important travel route connecting the Northern Territory with Asia, as the airline announces its new direct flights between Darwin and Bali set to commence on March 22, 2025. This service will operate three times a week, providing an essential gateway for travelers, tourism, and economic growth in both regions.

Tickets for the newly launched route are now available for booking, with fares starting at AUD 189. The service aims to add over 1,000 seats weekly, offering beneficial opportunities for both Darwin International Airport and Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport.

The introduction of these flights is part of a broader strategy to stimulate tourism and promote local economies. Passengers traveling from Darwin can enjoy seamless connections to over 130 destinations across the extensive AirAsia Group network, including popular cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Hong Kong, and the picturesque Komodo Island, all accessible starting from under AUD 300.

Veranita Yosephine, CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, expressed the company’s excitement regarding the return to the Northern Territory. “Bali is now our largest hub in terms of flight capacity, driven by strong demand. These direct flights will cater to the enduring popularity of Bali as a destination for Australians,” said Veranita.

She emphasized that the new service not only benefits travelers from Darwin but also opens the Northern Territory to millions of visitors from across Asia, who will have the opportunity to explore its rich culture, wildlife, and natural beauty, particularly in renowned sites such as Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land.

Support from Local Authorities

The announcement has received positive feedback from local officials. Sandra de Kock, Executive General Manager of the Airport Development Group, welcomed the airline’s return to Darwin, noting the strong demand for travel to Bali from the local community. “Territorians have been calling for more options to fly to Bali, and we’re excited to deliver with the return of AirAsia,” de Kock stated.

Bagus Hendraning Kobarsih, Consul (Head of Post) from the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in the Northern Territory, noted the significance of the new flight route in enhancing people-to-people ties and bolstering the longstanding relationship between Indonesia and the Northern Territory. He explained, “This air connectivity will facilitate the growth of two-way tourism and foster deeper interactions, creating new business opportunities.”

Northern Territory Minister for Trade, Business, and Asian Relations, the Hon Robyn Cahill, OAM, also celebrated the airline’s return. “The resumption of direct flights between Darwin and Bali by AirAsia is fantastic news for Territorians and visitors alike.” She highlighted AirAsia’s reputation as a strong global carrier, instilling confidence in both leisure and business travelers.

Additionally, Northern Territory Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, the Hon Marie-Clare Boothby, remarked that the resumption of services would greatly benefit the local tourism industry. “We welcome Indonesia AirAsia back to the Territory as we work together to support the recovery and growth of our economy,” she said.

  • Flight Number QZ 540: Departing Bali (DPS) at 11:40 AM, arriving in Darwin (DRW) at 3:55 PM, with operations on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
  • Flight Number QZ 541: Departing Darwin (DRW) at 4:35 PM, arriving in Bali (DPS) at 5:55 PM, also operating on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
