New Skatepark Set to Enhance Recreational Facilities in Bali
Facility Development to Begin in April 2025
Bali will soon become home to a new skatepark, as the Tabanan Regency Government has announced that development will commence at Lapangan Kediri in April 2025. This initiative is a direct response to the growing demand for recreational facilities, particularly among young skateboarders in the region.
In a recent press conference, the Regent of Tabanan, Komang Gede Sanjaya, emphasized the importance of the skatepark in catering to community aspirations. "We accommodated their aspirations and then we realized them at the Kediri Field," he stated, demonstrating a commitment to youth engagement and active lifestyles.
Comprehensive Recreational Expansion
The new skatepark will not be the only addition to Lapangan Kediri; the project will also include a range of other recreational facilities, such as a jogging track and a climbing area. Sanjaya highlighted the local government’s dedication to improving public and social facilities: "In addition to road infrastructure, we are also committed to improving public facilities and social facilities such as fields. The Alit Saputra Field has been built, the Jambe Field has also been built, and now the Kediri Field, including the Penebel Field."
The construction of the skatepark has already entered the auction stage, with an allocated budget of IDR 1.5 billion. Although the specific completion date has yet to be announced, the Regent expressed optimism about providing locals and tourists with more diversified recreational options.
Skateboarding Culture in Bali
Skating is an integral part of Bali’s vibrant lifestyle, enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. The island already boasts popular venues like the Kuta Beach Skatepark, which attracts a mix of local and international skaters. The Kuta Beach Skatepark particularly thrives around sunset, becoming a hub for social interactions among both visitors and residents.
Additionally, other skateboarding facilities are available throughout Bali. Motion Skatepark, one of the top private skateparks, can also be found in Kuta, while Amplitude Skatepark on Jalan Raya Semer is recognized as one of the best in Indonesia, remaining open seven days a week, even late into the night on weekends.
Those in Ubud can enjoy the Titi Batu Club in Mas Village, which has its own dedicated skatepark. Guests can rent skateboards and scooters, ensuring accessibility for both day visitors and club members.
SurfSkate Retreats and Lessons
For tourists looking to merge their interest in skating with surfing, various establishments offer combined lessons, such as SurfSkate courses. Mantra Surf, located in Canggu’s Batu Bolong, provides a unique experience that teaches participants how to hone their skills on both a skateboard and a surfboard.
As the new skatepark and accompanying recreational facilities take shape, Bali continues to foster a dynamic environment for sports enthusiasts. The commitment from the Tabanan Regency Government promises not only to enhance the local community’s recreational landscape but also to attract more visitors eager to participate in Bali’s thriving skating culture.
