A foreign national (US nationality) allegedly assaulted a villa manager in the village of Kemenuh, Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency, Bali, identified as DNW (45), on Wednesday (1/24/2024). According to the police, the assault was carried out by a United States citizen identified as MZA (28), one of the tourists staying at the villa.
“The investigators have issued a prevention letter as a basis for Immigration authorities to prevent the suspected perpetrator from leaving the Bali region,” he said in a written statement on Thursday (1/25/2024). Jansen explained that, based on the victim’s statement, the perpetrator and his girlfriend, along with two friends who were also couples, stayed at the villa on Monday (1/22/2024).
The next day, the perpetrator and his girlfriend were known to have gone to a zoo in Gianyar, while their two friends rented a motorcycle from the villa. Then, on Wednesday (1/24/2024), the perpetrator and his girlfriend came to retrieve their belongings as they wanted to leave the villa. At the same time, the perpetrator also took the belongings of his friends. To the villa staff, the perpetrator claimed that his two friends had a traffic accident in Klungkung.
The two friends were undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in Kuta, Badung, Bali, while the rented motorcycle was already at the local police station. “The victim tried to inquire about the location where the motorcycle had the accident and temporarily requested a guarantee that the belongings of the two vehicle renters would not be taken first,” said Jansen.
Jansen stated that the male tourist insisted on taking his friends’ belongings, claiming that they might die as a result of the traffic accident. This disagreement led to a verbal altercation that escalated into an assault by the perpetrator. “From this difference of opinion, a verbal dispute arose, leading to a physical assault by the perpetrator on the victim’s left cheek, resulting in bruising,” he said. Jansen revealed that investigators had checked on the whereabouts of the two friends of the perpetrator who were said to be hospitalized at Siloam Hospital, Sunset Road, Kuta, Badung.
However, according to the doctors treating the two patients, the two foreign nationals only suffered minor injuries and were recommended for outpatient care due to the accident. “Up to now, investigators are still conducting an inquiry into the whereabouts of the alleged suspect or perpetrator and his companions, who are considered victims of the traffic accident,” he said.
