Prepare to have your “Twilight” mind blown – Edward Cullen is now a girl!?
Author Stephenie Meyer has penned a 442-page reimagining of her best-selling vampire novel titled “Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined.”
In the new work, Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart on the big screen) is now a guy named Beau (short for Beaufort). Edward Cullen (played by Robert Pattinson in the movie franchise) is now Edythe.
In a foreword to the 10th anniversary edition of “Twilight,” the author explained that she decided to pen the new work to illustrate that Bella is not a “damsel in distress” and explains that she is a “human in distress.”
“[The character is] a normal human being surrounded on all sides by people who are basically superheroes and supervillains,” she wrote
Meyer also took issue with the idea that Bella was “too consumed with her love interest, as if that’s somehow just a girl thing,” writing that Beau is “more OCD” than Bella was and that he’s “totally missing the chip Bella carries around on her shoulder all the time.”
The best-selling author wrote that reimagining the beloved story was “fun, but also really fast and easy” to write and also allowed her to fix numerous grammatical errors and word choices that had always bothered her in the original work. She also tweaked some elements of the “Twilight” mythology for consistency.
“Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined” is available today.
