TMII to Auction Off Tarantula to Raise Money for Palu

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah’s (TMII) cultural park management in East Jakarta plans to hold an auction of a Brazilian tarantula to raise money for Palu, Central Sulawesi, which was recently struck by earthquakes and a tsunami.

TMII veterinarian Kenda said a collector had donated his spider to TMII’s management to be auctioned.

“It was given by a collector to be sold to anyone that wants to buy it. We will hold an auction for it,” Kenda said on Sunday, jakarta.tribunnews.comreported. He said bidding for the spider starts at Rp 1.5 million (US$98.81).

TMII veterinary nurse Beni said the owner had taken care of the spider since it was young. “This tarantula is poisonous but not deadly. It will trigger an allergy at worst. The spider had been taken care of since it was 2 months old. It is 7 years old now,” he said.
