Slated to return on Sept. 27-29, the annual Tanjung Lesung Festival will reportedly put a spotlight on World Rhino Day, which falls on Sept. 22.
“There will be various rhino-inspired events, such as Rhino Trip, [where we will] provide a boat for participants and visitors to visit Ujung Kulon National Park,” said Banten Tourism Agency head Eneng Nurcahyati on Thursday as quoted by tempo.co.
Other rhino-related events scheduled at the festival are a Rhino Cross Triathlon, Rhino Edutainment, Rhino Camp and Rhino Bazaar. The latter, according to Eneng, would invite visitors to see the making of palm sugar.
“The main agenda for this festival is sports tourism and adventure,” said Eneng.
In addition the Rhino Cross Triathlon, the event will also hold a Mountain Bike Cross Country Marathon to lure sports enthusiasts.
Visitors can also expect to monitor the sea level, climate and earthquakes directly as the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) will reportedly install monitoring equipment at the main location in the Lalassa Beach Club Tanjung Lesung area.
Situated at Java’s most western coast in Banten province’s Pandeglang regency, Tanjung Lesung is a 1,500-hectare integrated beach resort and special economic zone that serves as an entry point to Ujung Kulon National Park and Krakatau Island. About a four-hour drive from Jakarta, it boasts a hotel, beach club, golf course, and Mongolian Culture Center.
