The home of Indonesia’s founding president Sukarno in Anggut subdistrict, Bengkulu province, is one of the nominees of this year’s Anugerah Pesona Indonesia awards initiated by the Tourism Ministry.
“Two tourist destinations in Bengkulu were nominated, namely Rumah Bung Karno [Bung Karno’s House] and Bukit Kandis,” Bengkulu Tourism Agency head Yudi Satria told Antara news agency on Wednesday.
Rumah Bung Karno, to which Sukarno was exiled from 1938 to 1942, was nominated in the most popular historical tourist site category, while Bukit Kandis in Central Bengkulu regency is in the running for the best adventure and sports tourist site.
“This is our chance to introduce Bengkulu’s tourist destinations to domestic and foreign tourists,” Yudi said.
Two of Bengkulu’s offerings were also recognized at last year’s Anugerah Persona Indonesia awards, namely the province’s Teh Oolong tea brand from Kepahiang regency and popular surfing spot Teluk Sepang beach in Bengkulu city.
The event is part of ayojalanjalan.com ‘s annual campaigns aimed at boosting tourism and encouraging the role of local administrations to attract visitors to their respective regions.
