The apron widening plan on the western end of the runway at Ngurah Rai International Airport has moved one step closer to fruition with the management company of the airport, PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I), receiving the Reclamation Implementation Permit from the Indonesian Marine and Fisheries Ministry.
The airport’s public relations chief, Arie Ahsannurohim, said that the Reclamation Implementation Permit was issued on Friday. However, the land being used for the expansion has been cut about 12 hectares, from 47.9 hectares to 35.75 hectares. “We proposed 47.9 hectares, however since there is a conservation area there, it was lessened to 35.75 hectares,” Arie said to Tribun Bali on Saturday.
With this final permit, AP I can start the reclamation process immediately. Arie added that at the moment his side focuses on ensuring the job implementation related to material mobilization and the equipment. Based on the contract, the widening project is targeted to be finished at the end of 2018 or at the beginning of 2019. The target also includes two other packages, which are the eastern apron widening and a VVIP building construction.
Arie said that the most important part of the project is to be finished before the IMF-World Bank annual meeting in October 2018. For that, the six hectares of the western apron widening will be prioritized.
“The six hectare reclamation will be prioritized, because it will be used as the airport facility and will be operating in October. In regard to the simultaneous operation and the construction, we will keep reviewing the safety and the risk involved,” Arie added.
He also said that AP I will be communicating with the Bali Provincial Government and its representatives in relation to the progress. Both of them and the central government will make field trips to ensure the quality of the job. “The visits will be more intense in October to check the preparation of Ngurah Rai Airport for the summit,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Bali Provincial Representative Commission lll, Ketut Kariyasa Adnyana, asked AP I to pay attention to the environment while making the beach reclamation.
“I hope PT Angkasa Pura conserves the environment when they carry out the beach reclamation, because there is much coral there,” he said in Denpasar on Saturday. He also admitted that I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport widening is needed to welcome the IMF-World Bank annual meeting in October at Nusa Dua.
