Reckless Foreigners Rebuked for Hanging Out on Edge of Bali’s Agung Crater

Indonesia’s disaster agency spokesman is calling out a pair of foreigners for disregarding the exclusion zone at Bali’s Mount Agung, which just last erupted on Sunday.

National Disaster Mitigation Agency BNPB Sutopo Purwo Nugroho took to Twitter on Monday share a video to rebuke “dangerous” behavior of the two foreigners who can be seen sitting at the very edge of a volcano crater, referred to as Mount Agung in the footage.

“Even though any activities are already forbidden in a radius of four kilometers from the crater, there are still tourists and tour guides that are reckless and are going to the crater. It’s extremely dangerous because Mount Agung could erupt at any time,” Nugroho tweeted.

“This video from 18/4/2019 is spreading on social media. Do not copy this! It’s dangerous!” he added. Mount Agung is at a level three alert level, or “standby” status, as set by Indonesia’s volcanology center.

There were thankfully no reports of casualties from Sunday’s eruptions, but the activity caused a drizzle of volcanic ash in several sub-districts in Karangasem. Following the eruptions, Bali Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD)urged residents in Karangasem to wear face masks whenever they’re outdoors.
