Ombak Bali International Surf Film Festival 2015

The countdown is on. Just two weeks to go until opening night of Ombak Bali, South East Asia’s one and only surf film fest. A stellar line up this year rolls in with all the latest and best surf flicks.

Opening night – Thursday August 6

Kicking off this year’s event is the highly anticipated world premiere of ‘Bulan Baru’ with Tai Grahamand friends chasing a secret wave around Indo. Main films of the night are the Asian premiere of ‘The Fisherman’s Son,’by Chris Malloy which follows big wave rider,Ramón Navarro,on his crusade to protect the culture and environment of the Chilean coast.Following, is ‘Devocean’ by Bali-based director,Maka,who will be presenting the film himself. This moving film reveals the story of Bruno H, who spent the majority of his life in or on the water, until tragedy struck in 1999. Plunging from carefree surfer and sailor to the depths of despair, this film tells the inspiring tale of his return to the ocean.

Day 2 – Friday August 7

‘Into the Sea’ is the incredible story of Irish pro surfer, Easkey Britton, as she travels through Iran with several top Iranian sportswomen in search of waves in isolated regions. ‘Wave of the Winter,’comes next with all the latest thrills from Pipeline.The last film of the night is an atmospheric retro documentary that captures the emerging beach and surf lifestyle of Brazil in the early 70’s.
Closing night – August 8

‘The Wave I Ride’ is the inspiring story of Hawaian monster wave surfer Paige Alms, one of just 10 female big wave surfers in the world.Closing off the festival is ‘Bear Island’ that sees three Norwegian brothers on a freezing adventure chasing waves and battling for survival in a far off uninhabited island in the North Pole.

Line-up

17 carefully-selected films from 12 different countries light up the big screen this year,and include one world premiere, two international premieres and 14 Asian premieres. Over 3000 people are expected to attend and will be stoked with three salty nights filled with monster waves, surf travels, personal missions, mind blowing stories and just a whole lot of good surf. Where & When

Where else but La Plancha!!
Once again Seminyak’s funkiest little beach bar hosts the festival with a big screen right on the shoreline. Beanbags, ice cold drinks, tapas and popcorn will set you up for the night!

Starts daily at sunset August 6 – 8.
