Kuta Police say they’re working on tightening up security around town because of pickpocketing reports, especially around the Ground Zero Bali Bombing monument on Jl. Legian, but they say overall that bag stealing cases seem to be down from in the past.
“The Jl. Poppies I and II areas used to have a lot of bag snatching, but now have zero incidents. Definitely cases of pickpocketing went down in 2015 and in 2016, they are also going down,” Kuta Police Chief I Wayan Sumara assured Tribun Bali on Sunday.
But regardless of a stated drop, Kuta Police has recently identified three main points in the tourist town that have become more popular with pickpockets.
Those areas are Jl. Dewi Sri, Sunset Road, and Jl. Merdeka, according to Sumara.
He added that while there’s been a tendency in the past for pickpockets to target the Ground Zero and Sky Garden area, they seem to be turning to other areas now, such as Dewi Sri.
