The Kubutambahan customary village has decided to hand over temple land in their area to help the construction of the international airport in North Bali. The agreement was decided after several parties met in the Bali Governor’s office on Sunday.
A witness told Radar Bali that the meeting was attended by the Head of Kubutambahan custom village, Jro Pasek Ketut Warkadea, with village officers and the Buleleng Regent, Putu Agus Suradnyana, his vice, dr. Nyoman Sutjidra, and Bali Governor, Wayan Koster.
Radar Bali also received a video about the handover. In the video, Warkadea stated that his side agreed to hand over 370.98 hectares of Kubutambahan land to be used to construct the airport, and he hoped the construction would help with community welfare.
“All the legalities would be handled by the provincial and district governments. We hope the construction will start soon,” he said in the video.
The government plans to construct the north Bali international airport on 400 hectares of land. There are several companies that are interested in constructing the airport, but as yet, the contracts have not been decided. Meanwhile, the new toll road project connecting Buleleng to Denpasar is steaming ahead. Construction of the new stretches of road from Mengwitani, Tabanan to Singaraja, Buleleng is expected to be completed in December 2019.
The new airport will lie to the south of Kubutambahan police station and to the east to Bukti village. The initial runway will be 2,800 meters and then increased to 3,720 meters when needed. The airport will be able to accommodate aircraft such as Boeing 737 and Airbus A330.
