Lion Air aircraft JT 610 from Jakarta to Pangkalpinang, Bangka Island disappeared off the radar this morning after taking off from Soekarno Hatta International Airport at 6.20am. According to Detik.com, the plane crashed into the sea 13 minutes after taking to the air.
Head of the SAR Office, Pangkal Pinang Danang Priandoko, said the pilot had requested a return to base (RTB) to the Soekarno-Hatta Airport supervisory officer. “They had asked the pilot to repeat the message again, but apparently the message never arrived. Contact was lost,” Danang told Kompas.com on Monday.
Lion Air said in a statement that the aircraft was brand new and fully operational, only operating since August 2018, which is a total of 2.5 months.
The plane carried 178 adult passengers, one child, and two babies. There were three flight attendants being trained and one technician on board.
The aircraft was commanded by Capt Bhavye Suneja with co-pilot Harvino, along with six cabin crew members in the names of Shintia Melina, Citra Noivita Anggelia, Alviani Hidayatul Solikha, Damayanti Simarmata, Mery Yulianda, and Deny Maula.
“The pilot already had more than 6,000 flight hours and the co-pilot more than 5,000 flight hours,” the statement said.
