The 16th International Dragon Boat Festival kicked off on Thursday at the H. Agus Salim Sports Arena Canal in Padang, West Sumatra, as reported by kompas.com. Countries such as Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany and Vietnam taking part, with local participants coming from Jakarta, South Sumatra, Riau and Pekanbaru.
This year’s event, which will be held until Sunday, sees an increase in participation from foreign countries compared to previous years. According to Azwin, head of the Padang Youth and Sports Agency, participants will also be introduced to a number of tourist attractions in Padang throughout the festival.
The event offers a total prize of Rp 190 million (US$13,141).
