Fire Strikes Eiger Gear Shop

Share This Post:

After a fire devastated Pasar Badung, the biggest and oldest traditional market in Bali earlier this month, we’re sure everyone was hoping it would be a long time before we heard about any more fires.

Unfortunately reports have hit of another fire in Denpasar on Friday morning, this time at adventure gear shop Eiger on Jl. Teuku Umar, Denapsar.

Thankfully though, the fire has already been extinguished by firefighters from BPBD Denpasar (the regional disaster management agency).

“Upon arriving here, I already saw smoke. We did not open earlier right at 9 am. Right when the store opened, there was a lot of smoke,” Wahyuni, an employee at Eiger told Tribun Bali.

An employee from the Oke Shop just east of Eiger says he saw a puff of smoke earlier, which prompted him to call for help.

“The smell of the smoke was so intense here. So I guessed that there was a fire. Then when I saw the blackened wall, I immediately contacted the police and the police contacted BPBD,” Sudana told Tribun.

Based on the newspaper’s observations, a number of place officers were already at the scene to investigate the fire and set up a crime scene. The officers at the scene, however, were not yet able to confirm the cause of the fire.
