Bali is hosting the third World Surf League (WSL) Champions Tour until May 25 in Keramas Beach, Gianyar regency. Fifty-six top international surfers are set to compete in the highly anticipated sporting event, themed Corona Bali ProTected.
According to the Tourism Ministry’s marketing development deputy assistant for region III, Ricky Fauziyani, Indonesian was chosen to host one of the 11 legs of the championship.
“The championship takes place across several countries, from Australia to Indonesia, and then Brazil, South Africa, North America, France, and Hawaii. This is proof that Indonesia boasts world-class surfing spots,” Ricky said as quoted by Kompas.com.
Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo, head of the ministry’s marine tourism development acceleration team, said the country’s collaboration with WSL is expected to attract more international tourists.
“Indonesia has hundreds of surfing spots, 30 of which are regarded as world-class. Of the 30 locations, 11 will host this year’s WSL, therefore cementing Indonesia as the number one surfing destination in the world,” he said.
