Bali Sets New Tourism Record

Share This Post:

Bali has smashed its full-year tourism record, exceeding its previous all-time-high of four million international visitor arrivals in the first 10 months of 2016.

The Indonesian island welcomed a total of 4.07 million arrivals in the year to October 2016, 21.2% higher than the same period last year, and already ahead of the record 4.00m visitors achieved in the whole of 2015. Full-year arrivals are likely to exceed 4.8m.

This growth is being driven by two key source markets – Australia (+16.3% to 954,957) and mainland China (+36.4% to 820,345). Combined, these two countries accounted for 43.6% of total arrivals in the 10-month period.

Japan (+3.9% to 199,443) was a distant third, followed by three high-growth source markets – the UK (+33.5% to 185,307), France (+27.9% to 147,413) and India (+58.7% to 143,464) – all of which have overtaken the declining Malaysian market (-6.3% to 142,616).

Bali is likely to contribute approximately 40% of the 12 million international travellers expected to visit Indonesia in 2016.
