Denpasar, Bali – May 8, 2025 – A Syrian tourist, identified by the initials MA, has been taken into custody following an incident of shoplifting at a clothing store in North Kuta, Bali. The arrest occurred on May 6, 2025, and was captured on surveillance cameras, leading to widespread dissemination of the footage across social media platforms.

The alleged theft took place around 11:05 a.m. local time when the 39-year-old suspect reportedly took several items from the store without payment. The store attendant noticed the suspicious behavior and alerted nearby residents, who quickly joined in efforts to detain MA until the police arrived at the scene.
According to I Putu Sukarma, Head of Public Relations for the Badung Police Department, “The suspect committed a theft of clothing. The estimated loss is around Rp 4 million, equivalent to approximately $243. The case is now under investigation by the North Kuta Police.”
