Bali, Indonesia — A significant power outage affected several areas of Bali on Friday, throwing the island, famous for its stunning beaches and vibrant culture, into darkness. The state utility company, Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), is currently investigating the cause of the blackout and working diligently to restore power to the affected regions.

Impact on Residents and Tourists

The power outage prompted widespread disruptions across the island, impacting residents as well as the influx of tourists who flock to Bali for its picturesque landscapes. Images circulating on social media depicted chaotic scenes as road traffic came to a standstill, and long lines formed at airport check-in counters, highlighting the situation’s urgency.

In a statement, Balinese PLN spokesperson I Wayan Eka Susana reassured the public that "the recovery process is currently being carried out gradually." Despite the challenges, services at Ngurah Rai International Airport were minimally impacted; flights both in and out of the airport continued to operate, according to an update posted by the airport management on Instagram.
