Following a number of terror strikes around the globe like recent attacks in Istanbul and Solo, Central Java, Bali has maintained its “yellow level” airport security status.
Bali Airport raised its security status back in November 2015 following the devastating Paris attacks.
General Manager of Angkasa Pura I, I Gusti Ngruah Rai Airport Trikora Harjo says that when the airport is “yellow”, there are 1,400 security personnel on full alert.
In addition to the Gegana (bomb removal) and Jihandak (explosive ordnance disposal) teams, the Air Force and the Army are on standby, according to Harjo.
“In addition to being on full alert, officers also perform operations or luggage examination. Therefore, we apologize to people who enter the airport and have to be fully searched and examined,” Harjo said to Tribun Bali of intensive searches conducted by security at the airport, while under yellow status.
