Bali Introduces Single Digital Wallet for Tourists to Enable Seamless Payments Across the Island
Bali, Indonesia — In a significant move towards enhancing the travel experience on the island, Bali has launched the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack (ITTP), a comprehensive digital payment solution designed specifically for international tourists. This initiative simplifies transactions at restaurants, shops, hotels, and popular tourist attractions by allowing visitors to pay using a single digital wallet linked to QR codes.
With millions of visitors arriving annually and the global trend shifting towards cashless payments, Bali’s adoption of the ITTP aims to modernize the way tourists handle everyday transactions. The pack includes a chip-based digital wallet integrated with the nationwide QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard) payment system, a prepaid SIM card with data, and a local phone number. Together, these services allow travelers to make instant payments simply by scanning QR codes, removing the need for physical cash or multiple payment apps.
Fillianingsih Hendarta, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, emphasized the importance of easy transactions for improving tourists’ experiences. "Ease of transactions is an important part of the tourism experience in Bali," she said during the ITTP launch event. The initiative reflects Bali’s broader goal to embrace digital innovation and position itself as a visitor-friendly destination that keeps pace with international payment trends.
To assist arriving tourists, Bank Indonesia has opened a dedicated Tourism Information Centre at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Here, travelers can set up their digital wallets and receive the QRIS Nusantara Tourism Guidebook, which highlights businesses and attractions that accept QRIS payments island-wide. This guide is aimed at encouraging the use of QR code payments right from the start of visitors’ journeys in Bali.
The adoption of QRIS has seen rapid growth throughout Bali in 2025, with nearly one million merchants now accepting QR-based payments. This range includes not only urban centers but also rural villages and cultural hubs like Ubud and Penglipuran, helping local small businesses participate confidently in Bali’s tourism-driven economy. Such widespread usage benefits micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by improving financial inclusion and enabling cleaner, more transparent transactions that support business growth and stability.
The new digital wallet system also caters to international visitors from countries such as China, Japan, and Singapore, offering cross-border QRIS compatibility that allows them to use their existing digital wallets for payments in Bali.
