New Flight Route Enhances Travel Between Bali and East Java

In a significant development for Indonesian tourism, a new air connection has been launched linking Bali with East Java, offering travelers quicker and easier access to explore the cultural and natural attractions of East Java. This enhancement is the result of a concerted effort by local authorities and the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism to improve connectivity between Bali and other prominent destinations across the archipelago.

Direct Flights Now Available Between Denpasar and Jember

The new service, operated by Wings Air, connects Denpasar Airport in Bali with Jember Airport in East Java. Operating three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the flight enables tourists and locals to travel swiftly between Bali and Jember in under an hour. This new route significantly reduces travel time to key attractions in East Java, including Mount Ijen, which is located approximately 100 kilometers from Jember.

According to Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, the introduction of this route is a milestone for regional connectivity. He emphasized that the Denpasar-Jember link not only facilitates public mobility but also plays an important role in fostering economic growth between Bali and East Java. The airport currently offers flights to 59 destinations with 51 airlines serving the region, reflecting its status as a vital transportation hub.

Expanding Opportunities for Tourism and Local Economies

Shahab stated, “The opening of this new route is part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening national air connectivity and encouraging the growth of the tourism industry and the regional economy.” He added that each new flight route enhances Bali’s appeal as a prime travel destination while improving access to diverse regions throughout Indonesia.

Danang Mandala Prihantoro, Corporate Communications Strategist for Wings Air, highlighted the broader significance of the flight. “Jember is becoming increasingly accessible not just for local residents but also for domestic and international tourists connecting through Bali.” This accessibility opens doors for travelers to discover lesser-known destinations in East Java such as Lumajang, Bondowoso, Probolinggo, and Situbondo.

Flight Schedule and Travel Options

The flight departs from Denpasar at 11:40 a.m. and arrives in Jember by noon. The return flight leaves Jember at 1:00 p.m. and lands in Denpasar at 3:20 p.m., operating every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Besides air travel, alternatives for reaching East Java include the ferry crossing from Gilimanuk in Bali to Banyuwangi in East Java.

Tourists are also increasingly combining their trips by flying from Denpasar to Yogyakarta, thereby exploring both Central and East Java. Returning through Bali or Jakarta airports allows flexible international travel options.

Encouraging Multi-Destination Travel Across Indonesia

This new flight route aligns with Indonesia’s broader tourism strategy to promote multi-stop journeys across the country’s vast and varied islands. By improving inter-island connectivity, especially from tourism hubs like Bali, travelers are encouraged to experience the rich diversity of Indonesia’s regions, extending their adventures beyond the island of Bali to other captivating locales throughout the archipelago.

As the tourism sector rebounds and grows, such improvements in air travel infrastructure are poised to play a crucial role in supporting sustainable tourism development and regional economic advancement in Indonesia.
