International Tourists in Bali Can Now Pay Everywhere With a Single Digital Wallet
Bali, Indonesia – In a significant stride toward a seamless travel experience, Bali has introduced a new digital payment solution designed specifically for international tourists. The Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack (ITTP), launched by Bank Indonesia, consolidates multiple travel conveniences into one package, making cashless payments across the island easier and more accessible for visitors.
Simplifying Payments with the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack
The ITTP provides tourists with a chip-based digital wallet linked to Indonesia’s QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard) payment system. Along with the digital wallet, the pack includes a local SIM card loaded with data and a local phone number, enabling travelers to stay connected while facilitating instant mobile payments. This all-in-one solution allows tourists to scan QR codes to make payments at restaurants, hotels, shops, and popular tourist attractions without needing to handle cash or navigate unfamiliar payment systems.
By combining these features, the initiative aims to reduce the hassles of currency exchange and adapt to the growing preference for digital payments worldwide. Fillianingsih Hendarta, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, emphasized the program’s goal to enhance Indonesia’s reputation as a visitor-friendly destination. “Ease of transactions is an important part of the tourism experience in Bali,” she said during the launch event.
Tourism Information Centre at Bali Airport Assists Visitors
To ensure tourists can quickly access and set up the ITTP, Bank Indonesia has opened a Tourism Information Centre at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. This centre helps arriving travelers activate their digital wallets and provides access to the QRIS Nusantara Tourism Guidebook, which lists attractions, cafés, markets, and businesses that accept QRIS payments throughout Bali.
“With the support of various parties, the experience of international tourists in Bali will be more convenient and practical,” said Bank Indonesia, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the rollout.
Rising Adoption of QRIS Payments Across Bali
The adoption of QRIS digital payments is surging in Bali. In the first half of 2025 alone, nearly one million merchants across the island began accepting QR code payments. Visitors from countries such as China, Japan, and Singapore can even use their existing digital wallets through cross-border QRIS features, broadening accessibility for Asia’s frequent travelers.
Importantly, this digital payment shift is not confined to Bali’s coastal tourist areas. Village shops, small kiosks, and temple stalls in cultural hubs like Ubud and Penglipuran have embraced QRIS payments, demonstrating the system’s reach into rural and community spaces. This widespread adoption provides travelers with a consistent payment experience anywhere on the island.
Supporting Bali’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises
The digital payment initiative also offers significant benefits for local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), key players in Bali’s tourism economy. By enabling cashless transactions, the ITTP enhances financial inclusion and helps businesses maintain cleaner, more transparent records. This shift aids small vendors—from restaurants and craft shops to street food stalls—in achieving greater economic stability and growth, while aligning with global travelers’ digital-first spending habits.
