Bali Introduces New Digital Payments System to Enhance Tourist Experience
Bali, the renowned Indonesian island famous for its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and natural beauty, has launched an innovative digital payments system aimed at providing tourists with faster, smoother, and more convenient financial transactions during their visit.
Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack (ITTP) Rolled Out at Bali Airport
In an effort to promote cashless payments and support a digital tourism ecosystem, Bank Indonesia officially introduced the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack (ITTP) at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali. This initiative is designed to simplify payment processes for international visitors and reinforce Indonesia’s appeal as a tourist-friendly destination.
The ITTP package includes:
- An Indonesian SIM card with local phone number and internet access through a valid data plan.
- A chip-based electronic money card linked to an e-wallet, enabling seamless digital transactions.
To assist travelers in adapting to this new system, a dedicated Tourism Information Center has been established at the airport. Here, visitors can obtain the ITTP pack and receive the QRIS Nusantara Tourism Guidebook. This guidebook acts as a comprehensive directory of Bali’s attractions, eateries, markets, and businesses that accept payments via the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) system.
Seamless Payments Through QRIS
The QRIS system is a nationwide effort enabling cashless payments via QR-code scanning and e-wallet solutions. With the ITTP, tourists can now effortlessly make QR-code-based transactions at various points including tourist sites, shops, hotels, and restaurants across Bali.
While cash remains widely used in Bali, this new adoption of digital payments caters to international travelers’ preferences for using smartphones to manage expenses abroad. It is expected to make financial transactions more convenient and secure for visitors, contributing to an improved overall travel experience.
Future Developments and Currency Redenomination
In addition to digital payment enhancements, Indonesia is planning to redenominate its currency to simplify numerical values, although this transition is anticipated to be gradual. This monetary reform is part of broader efforts to modernize financial systems in the country.
